Burkhard Vogtherr Air Sofa, 1980s
Newly Upholstered in Teddy Bouclé
Air Sofa Newly Upholstered in Teddy Bouclé, 1980s by Burkhard Vogtherr for Hain & Thome
This larger version of the original 'air' sofa derives from the idea to subtract the bulk of traditional armchairs, using filament-like supports to create a sense of airiness and allow the shape of the sofa also being thin and non-bulky, using a steel structure on the inside to minimize weight and maximize stability. The same logic applies to the the compound pillars that seem to subtract a massive pillar and replace with thin multiples. We have had the sofa gutted and newly upholstered with a beautiful Teddy bouclé in brown. the pillars have been restored as well and painted black. The sofa shape and style is typical for the 1980's however it is comfy and versatile du to its little weight. It can easily be rearranged by one person and is great to sleep on. It can also stand alone of course. Dimensions are: 77,16" x 25,6" x 27,95"; seat height 14,56"
