Max Ingrand Chandelier 1959
Fontana Arte Mod. 1088, Italy
Rare 26.4" chandelier Mod. 1088, Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte, Milano circa 1959
Early vintage original chandelier with 9 dual lense sets of thick studio glass, sand blasted at the center to diffuse light and configured arround a suspended ring of nickel plated brass. It's a large and elegant fixture with the typical organic glass motive that Max Ingrand used for many of his light-designs. It's a very delicate piece with outstanding glass work. We have cleaned the nickel parts, gently cleaned the rest to to preserve the original surface. The cables have not been replaced, rewired. (Photos of the original wires were archived). We have left the electric as is for originality reasons; we can rewire it if requested. Nine e14 bulbs are illuminating this piece, the bulbs are hardly not visible from underneath the light. Overall it's in very good condition considering an age of 65 years. The glass shows no chips or cracks. The nickel shows some patina.
Provenance: the lamp derives from a private collection in Torino. Dimensions are 26.4“ (diameter) x 27.55“ (height, total drop)- we can extend the drop if requested.
Max Ingrand, director at Fontana arte between 1954-1964 was the man of the impossible details in glass design. He followed on Pietro Chiesa; both were responsible for some of the most iconic furniture for Fontana Arte, Milan.
