Gretl and Leo Wollner were designers of mainly fabrics, rugs and had great impact on the post-war Design and Art scene in Europe. They are famous for their hand-made artistic rugs which were produced as solitary originals only. Their everyday, useable rugs were also produced by hand but in larger quantities. Their works are in the permanent collection in the Moma NY and the museum for applied arts in Vienna. This rare rug is in astonishingly preserved condition. Very thick and heavy quality, with wonderful colors. The geometrical shape reminds of Art Deco and minimalistic principles with its 'cut' corners also relating to a diamond of sorts, hence the name Diadem, referring to a 'Schmuckstück' lying on the floor.
