Set Of 7 Original Beech Wood Chairs By Anna-Lülja Praun, Austria 1953.

This set of seven dining room chairs was designed by the Viennese architect Anna-Lülja Praun in 1953. The set is historically tied to its provenance as it is a one-of-a-kind custom order for the family Wollner, which were close friends with Anna-Lülja Praun. Gretl and Leo Wollner themselves were designers of mainly fabrics, rugs and had great impact on the post-war scene. Their works are at the Moma NY and the museum for applied arts in Vienna. We have acquired the chairs from the daughter of the Wollners. The white lacquer astonishingly is the original paint which is still in very good condition. The chairs frame is made of beech; originally they had some white leather cushions that were attached from the underside of the chair.

Lit. Eva B. Ottillinger, Möbeldesign der 50er Jahre, S. 136

Anna-Lülja Praun ( 1906 - 2004 ) female architect and designer created many furniture designs and buildings.

Timeless and pure design from a famed female Austrian designer in the 1950s.

However, her products were mostly exquisite, often custom-made individual pieces, specifically tailored to the personalities of her clients—who were both financially secure and open-minded toward her ideas, and with whom she was often friends. For instance, she worked for the composer György Ligeti, the pianist Alfred Brendel, and the ceramicist Gudrun Baudisch, as well as for doctors and entrepreneurs like the racing driver and car dealer Wolfgang Denzel, for whom she furnished a yacht in addition to an apartment, or for the Schöller-Bleckmann steelworks. She designed flexible, highly functional furniture with a keen eye for detail, while showing the utmost respect for the craftsmen she worked with and utilizing materials such as precious woods, leather, steel, silver, or brass, as well as alpaca and semi-precious stones.
