Max Ingrand Fontana Arte Chandelier Suspension Light Mod. 2097 Glass Brass, 1955

The chandelier model 2097 by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte exemplifies the designer’s refined ideas of glass as both structure and luminous medium. Conceived during Ingrand’s artistic directorship in the 1950s, the fixture reflects his ability to reconcile French decorative sensibility with the technical virtuosity of Italian glassmaking. The composition is organized around a commanding circular outer ring or disc formed of a curved, colored glass. Beneath and piercing through this perimeter rests a secondary, conical inner diffuser in satin-finished glass, gently curved to soften the glare and create a gradated illumination. The dialogue between transparent colored glass and opaline surface produces a layered chiaroscuro, characteristic of Ingrand’s scenographic approach to lighting. Three slender brass rods suspend the structure from its original canopy, introducing a measured verticality and a discreet metallic accent that anchors the otherwise ethereal glass volumes. The interplay of brass and glass underscores Fontana Arte’s commitment to material clarity and artisanal precision.

The overall condition is good original, with minimal scratches and a tiny chip on the outer ring. The brass-work shows a rich patina, the electrical cables we left as is, but will replace (rewire) if that is desired.

Provenance: the lamp derives from a private collection in Milano. Dimensions are 31,5“ (diameter) x 23,62“ (height, total drop).
