Alessandro Mendini Quilted Wall Hanging Tapestry Interflex, Italy, 1993
Dimensions 104" x 62" x1". This large wall hanging tapestry designed by Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019) was produced in 1993 and is no longer in production. The image is produced by screen-printing onto a quilted cotton fabric. It's depicting an imaginary theater with red curtains in a surreal fashion. Though produced in the 1990's it's certainly deriving from the playful post-modern era Mendini made his mark and is famous for. The piece comes with a hanging bracket that slots though loops in the back allowing the work to be easily installed and hangs perfectly on the wall. It's in good to very good original condition. Alessandro Mendini was one of the key figures of the radical design movement in Italy in the 1960-1970. He was chief editor of the Casabella magazine and founder of global tool which assembled architectural groups like Superstudio, Archizoom, and architects such as Gaetano Pesce and Ettore Sottsass amongst others.
