Paavo Tynell A1957 counterweight pendant, 1950

Rare and exceptionally refined ceiling light executed in brass that can be raised and lowered using its ingenious counterweight and pulley system, which we have checked. The cable has been replaced for smoother gliding. It was manufactured by Taito Oy in the early 1950s and works with one Edison bulb, socket, e27/26. The light has been carefully refurbished, cleaned, rewired. The original parts, canopy/junction cover are present. The socket was replaced. It’s in original state. Ready to go. Good overall condition, signs of age and use. Dimensions are 7.9" (diameter) drop ranges circa from 35" - 44"

Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was a Finnish designer who is well renowned around the world for his incredible lighting fixtures and lamps. Tynell is known as the man who “illuminated Finland” and his works can be found in numerous public offices and buildings such as the Finnish Parliament House and the office of Secretary-General of the United Nations in New York.
