Gio Ponti “Padelle” Style ceiling light for Fontana Arte, brass and glass, Italy, 1930-1940

This suspension lamp, probably manufactured by Fontana Arte, features a transparent glass disc with brass hardware and a satin glass cover. This elegant chandelier demonstrates Giovanni (Gio) Ponti’s attention toward a fluid relation between surfaces, space, and luminosity. It resembles the original Padelle lamp from 1933 for Fontana arte. It's in good vintage condition with no damages to the glass-ring or visible areas of the satin glass bowl.

Dimensions 26" x 4.33" / total drop 35.43"

Italian architect and founder and director of Domus, Gio Ponti (1891-1979) will be remembered for his attention to surface and urge towards simplicity in the relation of structure to form. Ever since the start of his career, the work of Giovanni (Gio) Ponti was profoundly innovative, going beyond the return to neoclassicism characteristic of early twentieth century architecture. Ponti made the architect a promoter of culture and an interpreter of the new bourgeois taste.
