George Nelson 6 Black Pretzel Chairs for ICF, 1984
George Nelson pretzel chairs Model # 5890, manufactured for ICF (labelled)
A rare set of six ''Pretzel'' armchairs with newly upholstered cushions, made from laminated wood by ICF De Padova in Italy between 1984 and 1986. Originally designed for Herman Miller, George Nelson authorized ICF to produce this model for the Italian market in 1984. Due to the complicated manufacturing process however which lead to the halt of production at Hermann Millers in the 1950's, the chair was also only produced in small numbers for ICF. Particularly the 3-way torsion of the arm- backrest proved difficult and expensive. The chairs are in good condition with minor marks of wear and time to the original paint. We have had them newly upholstered with Scacciera, Camengo in Velvet composite fabric. Paying tribute to the original checkered cushions from ICF that you can see in one of the photos.
They are in good vintage condition with normal wear, including scratches. Each chair is labelled at the bottom.
