Scarce, large 35" Gaetano Sciolari cubic chandelier with 37 lights

Early vintage original chandelier light by Gaetano Sciolari (marked). Impressive and iconic 35" lamp with 37 small bulbs and beautiful lighting qualities and in good and undamaged condition. This chandelier consists of 37 cubes from chromed aluminum with perspex shades spiraling around a middle stem. The design approach derives from the back then popular metabolistic principle that stems from the 1970 and was widely promoted especially in architecture, and especially in Japan. The bridges between the cubes are made of solid aluminium, the cubes from aluminum with lucite lamp shades that glide in and out to provide easy access to the bulbs.

It's in cleaned, very good overall condition with no damages. 37 bulbs per light (e14, 715W max per socket) We definitely recommend Led's due to the heat emission of standard bulbs and the possibility to give it more brightness though more Watts.

Dimensions are 35/35/39" (95/95/100cm) Height can be changed to 132cm/52"

Provenance: derives from an estate in Milan.

Angelo Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994), renowned Italian entrepeneur and designer, would not have engaged himself in the world of lighting if it hadn’t been for his father’s premature death. Gaetano had a great passion for cinema. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture, he began training as a film director with the ambition to turn it into a professional career. However, after the death of his father in 1949, the 22 year old Gaetano was forced to take over the business. Although this new position meant a complete career change, Gaetano directed the company with great vision. In 1954 the company won an international lighting and design competition. Within a few years, he expanded the family business by taking over the exclusive distribution of American Lightolier products. Sciolari was the first Italian manufacturer of lamps sold in the US and simultaneously the biggest importer in the lighting market. Sciolari was also the founder and first president of the trade association of Italian manufacturers of lighting fixtures, still very active today. Besides a successful entrepreneur, Gaetano proved to be a skillful designer. He created numerous lamps for several manufacturers like Stilnovo (Milan), Boulanger (Belgium) and Stilkronen (Germany).
