Bruno Gatta Stilnovo Floor Lamp, 1950
Opal Glass, Brass, Marble, Italy
Bruno Gatta for Stilnovo floor lamp, Italy 1950
Early vintage original floor lamp with 2 large opal glass shades designed by Bruno Gatta produced for Stilnovo. It's marked (label on the inside). Symmetrical brass and glass lamp, very subtle and almost quite art-deco in style with its clear geometry and elegant lines. The stem is held in brass and blackened brass, the base is from marble. Each opaline glass takes one e26/27 bulb with 60W. Led's are recommended due to heat emission, the wattage can also be higher that way if required.
Good vintage condition, original in all its parts, fully working, the marble base shows minimal chips, the black stem scratches and minimal color loss in parts. Bruno Gatta founded the Stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan. In December 1946 Stilnovo made its first appearance in the architectural magazine Domus, where two table lamps and a brass tray were published. Stilnovo reaches the height of success at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. During this period he collaborated with high-profile architects and designers on several projects, among these designers there are also Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Melchiorre Bega, Gae Aulenti, Joe Colombo and Ettore Sottsass.
