Rare solid oak lounge chairs mod. ‘Siegfried’ by Abraham Sprij for Sprij Meubelen, Mid-century Reupholstered with creme bouclé, Priced as a pair; These are two wonderful examples of the richness of Mid-century design. Craftsmen joinery meets a strong imaginative approach to design and attention to detail. These rare solid oak lounge chairs called ‘Siegfried’ by Abraham Sprij for his Dutch company Sprij Meubelen, mid 1960s are in good condition and ready to being used. They are sturdy, yet quirky and comfortable and more playful than the beautiful pieces by likeminded designers Guillerme et Chambron. The solid oak used for the throne-like frame wonderfully contradicts the softness of the newly upholstered cushions - originally upholstered in hefty, dark leather.

Founded in 1932 along the canals of Vlaardingen, Sprij Meubelen was a trailblazing Dutch manufacturer that revolutionized the use of solid oak in furniture design. The firm's rapid success led founder Abraham Sprij to open a second factory in Klundert in 1942. Much like Guillerme et Chambron did in France, Sprij served as a design forerunner, masterfully blending exceptional craftsmanship with bold, versatile aesthetics. Today, his 1950s organic walnut pieces and 1960s Brutalist oak masterworks remain highly coveted by international collectors.
