Rope.
Pair of armchairs, beech, rope hemp, France, 1950s.
Gorgeous set of 2 almost identical arm-chairs, mid-century.
One of the chairs is a bit taller and also the seat height differs about half inch. The seats are made of woven hemp rope which also differ from seat to seat.
However they still make a great pair as the architecture is identical.
The naturalistic approach to design and style and the therefor displayed use of material is typical for rustic 1950’s French furniture-makers.
Very much so for Atelier Audoux-Minet (active around 1940-1950 in Marseille). The chairs are in very good vintage condition, the frames are all clean, sturdy and sound, with only some minor surface wear here and there commensurate with age.
Dimensions chair one: 27.5″ x 22.83″ x 42.9″ – seat height: 17.3” Dimensions chair two: 27.5″ x 22.83″ x 41.8″ – seat height: 16.2”.
